NBA All-Star Game - D Wade and the King?

You almost can't help enjoying a bit of the NBA All-Star Game even with the players seemingly playing a game of 21 on the YMCA gym floor. The competition is without defense racking up a score of 141 to 139. It was a show filled with LeBron James and Dwayne Wade taking it to the rack all day. Not that the NBA all-star game is a good judge of talent, but Wade is the most consistently dominant player in the NBA today. No championship yet for the king while Kobe is dealing his gold to Fort Knox. Being said, Wade brought a championship to Miami after leading Marquette to the final four within a few years. A combination of Wade and James in an NBA game night after night would in my mind bring a quick championship for that team.

At the end of this season, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade will most likely both be free agents. There has been a large amount of talk regarding where James will go for quite some time now. Both players could be leaving the team that they were drafted by and have spent their entire careers with thus far. I have the opinion that James is entirely more willing to move on from the Cavaliers even though he's an Ohio native. Wade has said that he wants to remain with the heat for his entire career, but speculation looms of him opting out of his contract to explore his options. There's no doubt in my mind that he will go down this route unless the Heat can show him that they are rebuilding for a better future. One way to do this would be to bring LeBron James onto the team. We all know that James would love to play for the Knicks, but after confusing draft class a Miami Heat Wade and James showdown could certainly be in order.

All of this is speculation, but it's certainly something interesting to think about. Another question that you would have to ask yourself is how would these two players react to being on the court together at the same time? Would they put aside their nature of leading to cooperate more as a team much like the Celtics were able to do two years ago? I honestly doubt it, and feel that they will thrive in an environment much like the Heat championship team from the '05-'06 season with aging veterans like Shaq and Alonzo Mouring mixing with younger players like Jason Williams. It would certainly be something to see and would make the NBA a lot of money, but whether a team like the Heat could actually afford those two high profile players with ridiculous contracts is yet to be known.

After it's all said and done, this years NBA off-season is going to be one of the most expensive and interesting in recent memory. Other stars like Ray Allen, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Redd, Tracy McGrady, and Yao Ming are a few names who will also be free agents after this season. The NBA is looking at a serious mix-up in the months following the NBA Finals, and it's going to be good for the game.
