2010 Olympic Winter Games

The winter olympics this year are truly peaking my interest more than any other in the past. American  mens hockey is 2-0 for the first time EVER, and the Canadians are continuing to tear it up. After a convincing 8-0 victory over Norway and then Sidney Crosby putting away the victory today in a 3-2 shootout against Switzerland. The United States and Canada olympic hockey showdown on Sunday will be the deciding factor on who takes the gold I would imagine. The Canadian's are the overwhelming favorite after speaking with several fans and enthusiasts, but the United States remains optimistic that they can beat anyone at anytime (go watch the movie miracle if you don't believe me). Don't forget the women when it comes to hockey. The United States is by far the leader with a victory of 13-0 against Russia, and then the stompout they put down today. These women are serious, don't put me in a fight against them.

The most talked about sport in the Olympics this year has been Curling. At least here in the States, that's all that's been on the radio and television news networks aside from hockey. I would love to hear people from other countries post a comment with what they watch the most in the Olympic games. If you don't know what Curling is, it's like full body movement shuffleboard on ice. The team members take turns sliding these giant stones towards a target-like field-of-play. While the stones are sliding down the long path, team members slide alongside the stones with special shoes. They furiously brush the ice in front of the moving stone to make it slide faster or slower. Imagine having control like that on your game of shuffleboard the next cruise you take. The teams try to knock the other teams stones out of the target-area while landing theirs safely within. There's been some great matches this year, and it's a very entertaining sport to watch. I feel really bad for John Shuster in American men's curling. He missed an opportunity to win three matches in a period of twenty-four hours and did not come through in any of them. You've gotta make those throws. Needless to say, the team is not doing well. The American women's team is not doing any better..

Another favorite is the skiing and snowboarding. This year the talk of the games has been skier Lindsey Vonn and snowboarder Shaun White. Vonn won her first gold, while White defended his in the half-pipe competition. Vonn had been suffering from a serious shin injury and wasn't even a definite to compete at one point. She got some strange treatments of herbal medicine rubbed on her legs as well as massages daily. Somehow she overcame the pain and was able to fly to gold. White's moves on the other hand were just flawless. He came out and just landed everything he wanted with ease. When you land the "Double McTwist 1260" like that, you know it's golden...literally.

I'll be interested to see what happens when the skating is all finished as well as everything else. The games are over in exactly ten days, and hopefully I will have a nice new TV set before it's all said and done. Special shoutout to the north to all you Canadian's, good luck in the men's hockey game (we need the luck, actually)!
